"The Irene" by The Mallett Brothers Band

Lyrics:

My grandfather bought him a Knox Model G in the cold year of 1910
That boat made of oak raised four kids on the bay of Penobscot that became my dear friend
I worked on my father’s old fiberglass diesel almost from the time I could stand
That round bottomed hull and that block and them gulls and them wooden traps hurtin’ my hands

And I was born for haulin’ these traps
I was raised for doin’ it the old way
I was made to spend my life on the sea
On this 40 foot lobstering vessel I call the Irene

I bought the Irene with a loan and a dream and put up every penny I had
That winter was colder than ever before thought the ice wasn’t ever gonna pass
I need to go fishin’, I need to pay bills, I got doctors to see who need to give me my pills
I got whiskey to pour at the 3 doors of hell and I ain’t comin’ home til’ these tanks are all filled

And I was born for haulin’ these traps
I was raised for doin’ it the old way
I was made to spend my life on the sea
On this 40 foot lobstering vessel I call the Irene
