TMBB Cartooned in the Latest O'Chang Comics

Warning! Not safe for work, not safe for children, may or not be safe for grandparents and such. FOUL LANGUAGE!!!!

Wow man. If you're from Maine you might have heard of O'Chang Comics' Temp Tales series. It's funnier than hell, and fouler than the foulest sailor. The creators of the cartoon are pretty good buddies and we were flattered as all get-out when they turned us into cartoons for the last episode "Crittah Gittahz." In the new one they cartooned us and also had us talk a little bit. Truly one of our proudest moments.

Also, a more accurate representation of Maine than lighthouse postcards and lobster t-shirts, no doubt.

New Video: "There Are No Rules In This Game," Plus Lyrics

Big thanks to Keith Piesco for directing and shooting the new video for "There Are No Rules In This Game," from the latest album Lights Along the River. The video was shot around some of our favorite haunts in Portland, Maine, with stops at Susan's Fish and Chips, Bissell Brothers Brewing, Guitar Grave and more. Pretty fun.

There Are No Rules In This Game Lyrics:

There is no one that you can blame
When you're out standing in the rain
There ain't nobody who will remember your name
And there is no one that you can blame

There is nothing that you can do
It's all been tried, it's all been true
You might see red, you might see blue
There is nothin' that you can do

But there are no rules in this game
You might get some treasure
You might get some rain
There might be a reason for you to carry on some flame
But there are no rules in this game

Everything's good and everything's bad
But what would you do if this thing was the only thing that you had?
Would it make you smile? Would it make you mad?
Everything's good, everything's bad

And everything's precious and everyone's dead
That were livin' in the times of Alexander and Eric the Red
Only thing changin' are the thoughts up in your head
Everything's precious, everyone's dead

There are no rules in this game
You might get some pleasure, you might get some pain
You might find a reason for you to carry on some flame
But there are no rules in this game

Endorsement: 2015 Maine Holiday Gift Guide

Bunch of other sweet stuff made by Maine people, from tunes to clothes to food to beard oil to dinosaur candlesticks and anything else you or your loved ones might need. We highly recommend checkin' it out for your shopping needs this year and are flattered to have been included on the list.

Remember folks, when you buy local your money goes to your neighbors; when you buy from corporations, your money goes to James Bond villains. Support people doin' cool stuff in your neighborhood. And thanks again, Alex!

"Tennessee" Studio Track w/ Lyrics

"Tennessee," words and music by The Mallett Brothers Band:

I still miss you when it rains up in Nashville
headed down to Louisiana
route 10 to Austin
snowin' up in Colorado
spits you out in California
pouring up in Washington and
ain't gonna be here long

Back on the East Coast but only for a little while
the fog rolls in and I roll out, drivin' 1500 miles
route 81 she missed me
Bristol by the time I get to sleep

Tennessee upon my mind
Carolina 'neath my shoes
and I'm wastin' all this time
too much smoke and too much booze
Seems like I spent my life in the passing lane
But I still miss you when it rains

Three days in Salt Lake
get a call from Chicago
I'll be there in one days time
on my way to Ohio
after that I just don't know
drive some more and try to chase that winter weather

Murfreesboro all night long
head to Lexington at dawn
few new faces, few new songs
few more years of long, long gone
time to make my way back home
hopin' you're still waitin' where I left you

Oklahoma upon my mind
Montreal beneath my shoes
and I'm wastin' all this time
too much smoke and too much booze
seems like I spent my life in the passing lane
but I still miss you when it rains

Portland, Maine upon my mind
Arkansas beneath my shoes
and I'm wastin' all this time
too much smoke and too much booze
seems like I spent my life in the passing lane
I still miss you when it rains

"Walk Down the River" Lyrics, Studio Track, Etc.

"Walk Down the River" studio track from the first record put out back in 2010. One of the first songs we worked up as a band; pretty amazing it was 5 years ago this month that this album came out. Woah!

Anyway, the lyrics still aren't online so here you go folks:

"Walk Down the River" by The Mallett Brothers Band - Lyrics

You walked in ‘bout a half past three
Told me that you liked the likes of me
Said maybe we could get on outta this place
Maybe cut down the woods, cut to the chase

Maybe keep on walkin you could hold my hand
We’ll walk together to the Rio Grande
Go down to the bayou, make a new plan
We ain’t got a lotta time ‘fore the ship comes

So baby tell me your philosophy
Walk down the river and swim with me
Tell me what you think this all means
Tell me your secrets, take off your jeans

Well you’re bringin’ me joy and you’re bringin’ me pain
And there ain’t no girls like them girls in Maine
And baby I don’t even know your name, but I can call you baby tonight
I could call you baby, if that’s alright

And we could keep on walkin you could hold my hand
We’ll walk together to the Rio Grande
Go down to the bayou, make a new plan
We ain’t got a lotta time ‘fore the ship comes

So baby tell me your philosophy
Walk down the river and swim with me
Tell me what you think this all means
Tell me your secrets, take off your jeans

But baby I did not know
I didn’t know that you were gonna let me go
And if I had only known before
I wouldn’ta walked in through that door
I wouldn’t have walked in through that door

Ah but we could keep on walkin you could hold my hand
We’ll walk together to the Rio Grande
Go down to the bayou, make a new plan
We ain’t got a lotta time ‘fore the ship comes

So baby tell me your philosophy
Walk down the river and swim with me
Tell me what you think this all means
Tell me your secrets, take off your jeans

"There Are No Rules In This Game" Video, Lyrics, Etc.

We've got a recent video up on YouTube edited by our good buddy and merch-guy extraordinaire Emerson Trimble. Shot with a GoPro out on the road in CT, MA and NY a couple weeks ago, pretty fun stuff.

"There Are No Rules In This Game" was recorded for our 4th album Lights Along the River up in Willamantic, Maine in the fall of 2014. This particular track was a ton of fun if I recall; we were listening to the work we'd be doing out in the guest-cabin control-room until about 1am one of the nights we were out there. We were just about to call it a night and we decided to try to crank out another tune instead. In the middle of the night on a gorgeous fall eve, stars shining bright, not another cabin light visible for miles on the lake, it was wicked cool. We cut the track mostly live, overdubbing just the vocals, Luke's harmonica (played through a green bullet microphone and a Silvertone amp from the 50's) and one guitar track played by young Matty. For Matt's guitar, we set up our '64 Fender Super Reverb on the front steps of the camp facing the water, set up a mic in front of the amp and another about 50 feet away down by the dock to catch the lake's natural reverb. We turned it up to ten, and you could hear the notes echoing for miles across the lake, down towards Bowerbank, Dover-Foxcroft and Sebec. We wondered if anybody was trying to sleep and waking up confused as all hell. I'm sure it happened.

Lyrics:

There is no one that you can blame
When you're out standin' in the rain
There is nobody who will remember your name
And there is no one that you can blame

There is nothin' that you can do
It's all been tried, it's all been true
You might see red, you might see blue
There is nothin' that you can do

But there are no rules in this game
You might get some treasure, you might get some rain
Might be a reason for you to carry on some flame
But there are no rules in this game

Well everything's good and everything's bad
And what would you do if this thing was the only thing that you had
Would it make you smile
Would it make you mad
Everything's good, everything's bad

And everything's precious and everyone's dead
That were livin' in the time of Alexander and Eric the Red
Only thing changing are the thoughts up in your head
Everything's precious and everyone's dead

But there are no rules in this game
Might get some pleasure, might get some pain
Might be a reason for you to carry on some flame
But there are no rules in this game

There are no rules in this game
Might get some treasure, might get some rain
Might be a reason for you to carry on some flame
But there are no rules in this game

Note: During the solo that is a "yut," which is what we say up in Maine as shorthand for "yessa buddy giva tha dinna!"

Another note: shout out to Marcus Aurelius. The "Meditations" provided a couple of the radical phrasings of concepts that wound up in the song, and the dichotomy of sticking some ancient Stoic philosophy into a full-blown loud rock and roll song was part of the motivation for cranking this tune out. Happy how our middle-of-the-night tune turned out and hope you all dig!

Upcoming Shows, New Merch, New Videos and Whatnot!

Lots of good stuff been goin' on around here lately. Luke's back from a trip out west with the fam, Wally and Will have been busy at Wally's studio helping our buddy Joel Thetford out with his debut EP (which will be out soon, check it out!), Nick moved to an 18th century cabin on a lake up north and we haven't heard from him for the last few days, and Brian's been hard at work growing his beard out.

But! Relevant stuff too, had some really really amazing shows the past few weeks. We also decided it would be fun to grab a GoPro video camera to bring out on the road with us and see what happens... It's been a treat, and we got a couple pretty rad videos out of the NY/MA/CT trip the other weekend, with some help from our buddy Emerson who actually has some video experience. (Disclaimer, nothin' fancy in these videos, not much dough invested, not a ton of experience here, just straight up road life being hacked together for the pure fun of it.)

Here's the latest, check 'em out:

People have been seeming to dig these road videos so far so we'll probably keep 'em comin your way! A lot of fun shows in the next few months so we should have some pretty goofy stuff on the way.

One more thing - a bunch of new merch on the way, and we decided to get a little experimental this round. Have some new camo hats that look like they came from a yardsale in the 70's, have a cool new spin on an old logo currently getting turned into a patch that we may also throw on some random cool things we find out in the world. Stickers, new coozies, and a bunch of new sweet stuff on the way so keep an eye out for that, and we'l be sure to let you all know on social media and all that when we get some new stuff up on the online store.

Many thanks for the continued support, folks. Gonna be a great summer, catch us this weekend on Friday at the Bethel Moose Lottery Festival or Sunday at Ken Bell's new place HOME in the Old Port for the Portland Old Port Festival; other dates up on the tour page!

"Lights Along the River" Review in the Portland Phoenix

Shout out to our man Jakob Battick for the Portland Phoenix review of our latest. Jakob is a very talented and sharp dude and one of the most informed music critics up here in our home state, and we let out a big sigh of relief when we saw that the Lights Along the River review was a little less harsh than his review of Low Down a couple years back.

"The Malletts are channeling that same spirit as Steve Earle on Guitar Town, Waylon on Are You Ready for the Country, or Bob Seger at the top of his game in 1976. It’s rootsy, it’s tough, but it’s inflected with a serious penchant for writing that shows through the swagger." is a hell of a quote, thanks very much dude.

Release Parties in Portland, Boston, NYC & Providence

Thanks to Jesse Roche for the photo -- Jesse, we're amazed you took a picture of something other than a fish but much appreciated sir!

Thanks to Jesse Roche for the photo -- Jesse, we're amazed you took a picture of something other than a fish but much appreciated sir!

The last few weeks of shows have been incredible. Our hometown CD release at Port City Music Hall was one of the best nights we can imagine, with a sold-out hometown crowd and two killer bands on the bill. Girls, Guns and Glory destroyed, and Ghosts of Johnson City were wonderful as always (they're a newish Maine band, be sure to check 'em out if you get the chance).

Middle East in Boston is a bad@$$ club and we had a great night down there with two of the best live bands we know, Jake Hill and Deep Creek and Tigerman Woah! Rockwood in NYC was probably the best time we've had in the city so far, and the Met in Pawtucket, Rhode Island was a blast as always. Rhode Island crew - you're amazing, thanks for always making us feel at home and we'll see you soon at the Ocean MIst.

Shout out to the All Roads Music Fest organizers too while we're at it. The first-year festival up in Belfast, Maine was a huge success as far as we could tell, with almost every show at capacity, and a line-up to drool over. We didn't make it up too early in the day but in time to catch Armies, North of Nashville, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, couldn't get into Spose because it was sold out (!??), and the after party with Dominic and the Lucid. Amazing what kind of musical talent comes out of this state, and great to have an excuse to spend a day in the beautiful, Gothic-building-laden town of Belfast.

The show schedule isn't slowing down at all, check out the tour dates on the home page and come out and hang when you can!

Bangor Daily News Reviews "Lights Along the River"

Many thanks to Emily Burnham over at the Bangor Daily News for the thoughtful review of the new record. The Bangor Daily is a hometown paper for us so it's wicked sweet to get some love from up there in the northern half of the state. Emily's a great writer and will keep you in the loop about all types of music and fun going on in Bangor and around the state, check it out!

"Lights Along the River" to be released April 25, 2015 at Port City Music Hall

mallett-brothers-lights-along-the-river.jpg

We're psyched to let you guys know that our latest record, "Lights Along the River," will be officially released on April 25, 2015 with a celebration at Port City Music Hall in Portland, Maine. We're really happy with how the record came out and we can't wait to get it out there!

Tickets are available from Port City Music Hall online and at the box office.

Fall Update - Boats, Lakes, Tours, Young Matt, Etc.

We've had a slammin' fall and things are goin' good. Big thanks to everyone out there for showing support, listening to our tunes, coming out to shows and keeping this train rolling. We wanted to fill everyone in on a couple new developments that we're particularly excited about...

1) New album is on the way.

We recorded our latest record (our 4th) at the beginning of October in a remote location way up in the woods of Maine. It was at a boat-access-only camp and we had to haul about 5 party-barge loads worth of recording equipment in before we could start. Unnecessary, most definitely, but we had such a good time and think the good vibes, the seclusion, and all the other perks of doing a record that way really came out in the songs, and we can't wait to get 'em out to you. We haven't set a release date yet but we're in the finishing touches stage and should have this thing out in the next few months. Stay tuned....

2) Welcome aboard, Matt Mills!

Since the congenial departure of Mr. Nate Soule this past summer we've been playing mostly as a 5-piece, but you may have caught a young dude playing with us out on the road shredding on electric, banjo, pedal steel or some combo of all of those. His name is Matt, and we're truly psyched to be bringing him on board. His current place of residence is Nashville, Tennessee so he hasn't been able to make it to every gig right away, but you can expect to be seeing a lot more of him in the future.

Why would a band from Maine hire a guitar player from Tennessee, you ask? Well, that is a good question and it's a long story. But... we figure it's practical because he delivers the goods, and sentimental because check this out:

That's Matt with the mullet in the middle. Basically, we've known this guy since the day he was born and he's been like a brother ever since. When a spot opened up in the band, and with the amount of time we're spending out on the road these days away from the Northeast, we figured we could make it work. That and a bunch of twists of fate that led us to all look at each other and say yeah, he's our dude.

We did bring him up north for the record and he's got his fingerprints all over the thing, so stay tuned to hear what we've all been cookin' up.

Quick PSA: Matt is still technically in the "hazing" period and try as we might we don't think we've been giving him enough hell, so if you see him, by all means, bust his chops.

3) Gigs, gigs and more gigs.

We've had an absolute blast out on the road this fall. New England, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and wherever else we've gone we've had the good fortune of being treated like family wherever we wind up, and we can't thank all you guys enough. We're pumped to get back out on the road again in support of this new record that's on the way, and we'll be seeing all you guys soon we're sure.

In the mean time we'll be pretty local through New Year's, with stops in northern Maine, upstate New York, Massachusetts and a big party on January 3rd at Port City Music Hall in our home town of Portland which should be one for the books.

Thanks again to all you guys and make sure you come out and see us soon. Until then, cheers..

A Great Tour, Summer Plans, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Etc.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone who came out to our shows over the past couple weeks in Michigan, Colorado, Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee. It was one of the best tours we've had so far - great gigs, great times, a bunch of new friends and a couple nice catfish breakfasts. We'll be headed back out on that route again soon so be sure to come see us again folks!

Over the next couple months we're staying busy, mostly up here in the Northeast, and we have some real great gigs on the way. We're in Brewer this Saturday at the Brewer Performing Arts Center, and get over to Vermont and Upstate New York next weekend. June has too much going on to list here (check out the Tour tab), but we're particularly psyched to be opening up for Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd in New Hampshire on June 15. If you're thinking about heading down, be sure to buy your tickets from THIS LINK in order to kick us a little extra beer money.

Thanks again and catch you all out on the road!
